This is a reasonable way to keep earning Hilton points without paying anything for the privilege: 7x at Hilton hotels and resorts, 5x at U.S. restaurants, supermarkets, and gas stations, and 3x on everything else, all with no annual fee. The welcome offer is 80,000 points after $2,000 in six months plus a $100 statement credit, though it was trimmed from 100,000 on July 30, so this is a weaker moment to apply than a few weeks ago. Complimentary Silver status is thin on substance, essentially the fifth night free on reward stays, and reaching Gold takes $20,000 of eligible purchases in a calendar year. Because the points only spend at Hilton, those 5x categories are worth less than the multiplier suggests unless you actually stay at Hilton properties. It's a fine no-cost keeper for occasional Hilton guests, but anyone staying often enough to care about status should look at Surpass instead.
