Our take

The Aeroplan earns 3 points per dollar on dining and groceries, two everyday categories most airline cards ignore, plus 3 points per dollar on purchases made directly with Air Canada, all for a $95 annual fee. New cardmembers also get two years of Aeroplan 25K Elite Status and a free first checked bag for themselves and up to eight companions on Air Canada flights, which is the clearest reason to carry it if you fly the airline at all. Chase recently cut the signup bonus from 75,000 to 60,000 points after $3,000 in spend within three months, so the entry offer is meaningfully weaker than it was in the spring. The catch is that everything outside those categories earns just 1 point per dollar, and the points land in Aeroplan, so the value depends on you actually using Air Canada's award chart. No foreign transaction fees and a $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit every four years round it out.
